Gentleman Jack

O’Hooley & Tidow

GENTLEMAN JACK LYRICS

[Verse 1]
Behind her back, she's Gentleman Jack
A Yorkshire lady of renown
Ever so fine, won't toe the line
Speak her name, Gentleman Frown
At Shibden Hall she had them all
The fairer sex fell under her spell
Dapper and bright, she held them tight
Handsome Anne seduced them well

[Chorus]
Gentleman Jack, oh Gentleman Jack
Watch your back, you're under attack
Their husbands are coming, you'd better start running
For nobody likes a Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass, Jack-the-lass
No one likes a Jack-the-lass
The code is cracked, your bags are packed
The knives are out for Gentleman Jack

[Verse 2]
Proud and stout 'nd full of clout
She played the fellas at their game
Sharp of mind, she's one of a kind
Devilish ways the men couldn't tame
Hidden away, revealed today
Loaded words in diaries found
Wants exposed in a baffling code
Lusty letters, all leather bound

[Chorus]
Gentleman Jack, oh Gentleman Jack
Watch your back, you're under attack
Their husbands are coming, you'd better start running
For nobody likes a Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass, Jack-the-lass
No one likes a Jack-the-lass
The code is cracked, your bags are packed
The knives are out for Gentleman Jack

[Bridge]
Behind her back, she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Behind her back, she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Behind her back, she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Behind her back, she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back

[Chorus]
Gentleman Jack, oh Gentleman Jack
Watch your back, you're under attack
Their husbands are coming, you'd better start running
For nobody likes a Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass, Jack-the-lass
No one likes a Jack-the-lass
The code is cracked, your bags are packed
The knives are out for Gentleman Jack

Catch & Release

"Catch & Release"

There's a place I go to
Where no one knows me
It's not lonely
It's a necessary thing
It's a place I made up
Find out what I'm made of
The nights I've stayed up
Counting stars and fighting sleep

Let it wash over me
I'm ready to lose my feet
Take me off to the place where one reveals life's mystery
Steady on down the line
Lose every sense of time
Take it all in and wake up that small part of me
Day to day I'm blind to see
And find how far
To go

Everybody got their reason
Everybody got their way
We're just catching and releasing
What builds up throughout the day

It gets into your body
It flows right through your blood
We can tell each other secrets
And remember how to love

There's a place I'm going
No one knows me
If I breathe real slowly
Let it out and let it in
It can be terrifying
To be slowly dying
Also clarifying
We end where we begin

So let it wash over me
I'm ready to lose my feet
Take me off to the place where one reveals life's mystery
Steady on down the line
Lose every sense of time
Take it all in and wake up that small part of me
Day to day I'm blind to see
And find how far
To go

Everybody got their reason
Everybody got their way
We're just catching and releasing
What builds up throughout the day

It gets into your body
And it flows right through your blood
We can tell each other secrets
And remember how to love

Everybody got their reason
Everybody got their way
We're just catching and releasing
What builds up throughout the day

And it gets into your body
And it flows right through your blood
We can tell each other secrets
And remember how to love

It's a place I made up

Find out what I'm made of

Counting stars and fighting sleep

[Pre-Chorus]
Let it wash over me
Ready to lose my feet
Take me off to the place where one reviews life's mystery
Steady on down the line

Take it all in and wake up that small part of me
Day to day I'm blind to see

Everybody got their way

What builds up throughout the day
It gets into your body
And it flows right through your blood
We can tell each other secrets
And remember how to love
Darararamdam daramdamdam daramdam
Darararamdam daramdamdam daramdam

Dao De Jing:
(The increase granted to humility)
The partial becomes complete; the crooked, straight; the empty, full; the worn out, new. He whose (desires) are few gets them; he whose (desires) are many goes astray.
Therefore the sage holds in his embrace the one thing (of humility) and manifests it to all the world. He is free from self- display, and therefore he shines; from self-assertion, and therefore he is distinguished; from self-boasting, and therefore his merit is acknowledged; from self-complacency, and therefore he acquires superiority. It is because he is thus free from striving that therefore no one in the world is able to strive with him.
That saying of the ancients that 'the partial becomes complete' was not vainly spoken: - all real completion is comprehended under it.

Chapter 22

Yield, and maintain integrity.
If you want to become whole; let yourself become partial.
If you want to become straight; let yourself become crooked.
If you want to become full; let yourself become empty.
If you want to be reborn; you must let yourself die.
If you want to be given everything; you must give everything up.
The sage accepts the world as the world accepts the Way.
He is free from self-display, and therefore he shines.
Freed from self-assertion; he is distinguished.
Removed from self-boasting; his merit is acknowledged.
Removed from self-complacency; he acquires superiority.
It is because he is free from striving that no one in the world is able to strive with him.
When the ancient Masters said,
"If you want to be given everything, give everything up," they weren't mouthing empty phrases.
Only in being lived by the Tao can you be truly complete.

Dao De Jing:
(The use of what has no substantive existence)
The thirty spokes unite in the one nave; but it is on the empty space (for the axle), that the use of the wheel depends.
Clay is fashioned into vessels; but it is on their empty hollowness, that their use depends.
The door and windows are cut out (from the walls) to form an apartment; but it is on the empty space (within), that its use depends.
Therefore, what has a (positive) existence serves for profitable adaptation, and what has not that for (actual) usefulness.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11 - Larose Dao De Jing

11

Wei is what we do.
Wu-wei is how we live.
We put a roof over our heads to protect us from the elements.
But it is the space inside where our family grows.
I have a wooden vessel to carry water from my well to my house.
But it is the inside that contains the elixir.
It is what we don't see that makes us full.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11 - Rivenrock
Dao De Jing

Chapter 11

We join spokes together in a hub,
but it is the centre hole that provides the utility of the wheel.
We form clay into a container,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.
We build walls for a house,
But it is the empty space inside
that we live in.
Therefore: we work with being,
But it is in non-being that there is true usefulness.

Dao De Jing:
(Discriminating between attributes)
He who knows other men is discerning; he who knows himself is intelligent.
He who overcomes others is strong; he who overcomes himself is mighty.
He who is satisfied with his lot is rich;
he who goes on acting with energy has a (firm) will.
He who does not fail in the requirements of his position continues long;
he who dies and yet does not perish has longevity.

Knowledge from a book is intelligence.
Sipping the tea is wisdom.
You already have all you need.

Dao De Jing:
(Returning to simplicity)
Who knows his manhood's strength,
Yet still his female feebleness maintains;
As to one channel flow the many drains,
All come to him, yea, all beneath the sky.
Thus he the constant excellence retains;
The simple child again, free from all stains.

Who knows how white attracts,
Yet always keeps himself within black's shade,
The pattern of humility displayed,
Displayed in view of all beneath the sky;
He is the unchanging excellence arrayed,
Endless return to man's first state has made.
Who knows how glory shines,
Yet loves disgrace, nor ever for it is pale;
Behold his presence in a spacious vale,
To which men come from all beneath the sky.
The unchanging excellence completes its tale;
The simple infant man in him we hail.

The unwrought material, when divided and distributed, forms vessels. The sage, when employed, becomes the Head of all the Officers (of government); and in his greatest regulations, he employs no violent measures.

28

Be like this valley.

Accepting sunlight.
Accepting rain.
Accepting sages and villains.
Do this and the Dao will always be with you.
Know darkness in this valley.
Know the sunlight.
The Dao is strong in you.
Your tools are from a block of wood.
Keep to the block.

Dao De Jing:
(Dexterity in using the Dao)
The skilful traveller leaves no traces of his wheels or footsteps; the skilful speaker says nothing that can be found fault with or blamed; the skilful reckoner uses no tallies; the skilful closer needs no bolts or bars, while to open what he has shut will be impossible; the skilful binder uses no strings or knots, while to unloose what he has bound will be impossible. In the same way, the sage is always skilful at saving men, and so he does not cast away any man; he is always skilful at saving things, and so he does not cast away anything. This is called 'Hiding the light of his procedure.'
Therefore the man of skill is a master (to be looked up to) by him who has not the skill, and he who has not the skill is the helper of (the reputation of) him who has the skill. If the one did not honour his master, and the other did not rejoice in his helper, an (observer), though intelligent, might greatly err about them. This is called 'The utmost degree of mystery.'

Tao Te Ching Chapter 27 - Larose

Wander the lands with no intent on getting somewhere.
Accept anyone the knocks on your door. Give your sandals to someone that would steal them.
The bad that does not value the good and the good that does not love the bad are lost and confused. This is the essential wonder.
