Once was immortality — represented by, or under the watch of 西王母 Xīwángmǔ, the Queen Mother of the West or 瑤池金母 Golden Mother of the Jade Pond — that was hence stolen by 嫦娥 Cháng'é — from a new and much younger generation — and taken to the Moon, Earth's dead satellite, a hidden luminary that can only properly observed on certain occurrences or under specific circumstances as when night and day come to par.

The Moon (mid-autumn) Festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar with the full star at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar. It is based on the legend of 嫦娥 Cháng'é, the Chinese goddess of the Moon — about which a recently rediscovered divination text 《歸藏》Guicang, "Return to the Hidden" contains the story of 嫦娥 Cháng'é as a story providing the meaning to ䷵ 歸妹 (guī mèi) the Hexagram 54 of the 易經, "Converting the Maiden" — other variations include "the marrying maiden" and "Returning Maiden" — ䷵ 歸妹 is accompanied by the story of how the maiden 嫦娥 Cháng'é stole the medicine of immortality from 西王母 Xīwángmǔ, the Queen Mother of the West or 瑤池金母 Golden Mother of the Jade Pond and, upon returning home, used the hexagrams to determine that she should flee to the moon.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, when the full Moon appears on the night of the eighth lunar month, an open-air altar is set up facing the Moon for the worship of 嫦娥 Cháng'é. New pastries are put on the altar for her to bless, and she is said to endow her worshippers with beauty. Her story is commonly used as a cautionary tale by older generations to warn young girls about the dangers of following selfish desires.

While the Queen’s image faces to the right, her son’s will face left due to a 17th-century tradition that the direction of any image must alternate for each new monarch.

King Charles III was formally proclaimed monarch Saturday, September n10, 2022, in an accession ceremony, officially marking a new era in British rule following Queen Elizabeth's death Thursday.

The new king was officially announced as Britain’s monarch Saturday in a ceremony steeped in ancient tradition and political symbolism — and broadcast live for the first time.

Charles automatically became king when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died but the accession ceremony is a crucial constitutional and ceremonial step in introducing the new monarch to the country.

The ceremony ended with a royal official publicly proclaiming King Charles III the monarch from a balcony at the palace — a relic of centuries past when this would have been the first official confirmation the public had of their new sovereign.

David White, the Garter King of Arms, made the proclamation flanked by trumpeters in gold-trimmed robes before leading cheers — “hip, hip, hooray!” — for the new king.
