"Life is real, life is earnest!
It is not everything of life to live, nor all of death to die — the thoughts and the deeds done in the mind and the body, those that are built by the person must be met, and an account given of those things exhibited in the body and the mind.
The soul lives, and is a portion of the Creative Energy."

(ECRL 136-70)

Metabolism differs for all people across four distinct stages of life.
  • There is infancy, up until the age of 1, when calorie burning is at its peak, accelerating until it is 50 per cent above the adult rate.
  • Then, from age 1 to about age 20, metabolism gradually slows by about 3 per cent a year.
  • From age 20 to 60, it holds steady.
  • And, after age 60, it declines by about 0.7 per cent a year.

Metabolism, from Ancient Greek μεταβολή (metabolḗ, “change”) +‎ -ism, from μεταβάλλω (metabállō, “I change, I alter”) +‎ -η (-ē, “action noun suffix”).

  • The Joker, a Juggler legerdemain, a Mountebank, a Jester, a Fool and at times an Excuse. The Triumphs of them all and one.
  • The Gangster, a racketeer who plays it cool and spirits his theft away.
  • The Excuse, a playing card from the tarot deck. It is an end (bout), together with the 1 and the 21. It is a card marked with a star and representing a mandolin player. It fulfils a role equivalent to the joker of poker (the latter having been invented much later).
For the game of tarot, the extreme trumps, namely the 21 and the 1, as well as the excuse, are the three "ends", also called "oudlers". It is around these three cards that the whole strategy of the tarot game is organized.

To "spirit away" means to remove without anyone noticing.

In the 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, when the main character Ichabod Crane vanishes after being pursued by the Headless Horseman, he is rumoured to have been spirited away by the spectre.

神隠し, Kamikakushi, lit. 'hidden by kami', refers to the mysterious disappearance or death of a person, after they had angered the 神 (kami) gods. There are numerous legends of humans being abducted to the spirit world by 神 (kami/Alien Abduction, Abduction by the Greys, q.v.). Folklorist 柳田 國男, Yanagita Kunio, recorded several tales of 神隠し in 遠野物語, Tōno Monogatari, Tōno Tales, 1909.
