Daylight meditation tries to recreate the night 'reconnecting process' without the release of melatonin by the pineal gland and hence the slumber, thus having the local, curious and inquisitive mind effectively present and readily available to witness changes as they occur. To master drill and routine may take quite a long time, years and decades in fact. Hence the modern shortcuts/adaptations proposed, such as the Holotropic Breathwork method (Stanislav Grof) — a method of breath control that attempts to give rise to altered states of consciousness and to have an effect on physical and mental well-being — or The Hemi-sync, different and synchronised audio patterns containing binaural beats (Robert Allan Monroe) — EEG changes electromagnetically induced — also intended to give access to altered foci (concentration levels) through brainwave synchronisation.

坐禪 ध्यान dhyāna equated with "concentration, focus" a state of one-pointed absorption in which there is a diminished awareness of the surroundings, a practise influenced by सर्वास्तिवाद, Sarvāstivāda: 說一切有部 "the sect that speaks of the existence of everything," whose सर्वस्तिवादिन Sarvāstivādin, meditation teachers, also worked on the ध्यान सूत्र Dhyāna sutras (禪經 or "meditation summaries" 禪要), a group of early Buddhist meditation texts mostly based on the योगकारा Yogācāra (योगाचार “practising the practices”) which were translated into Chinese and influenced 禪.
