Like a relearning
Almost like immersing oneself in a new language
Only that it is but one of the many communication modes
A spectre in (M)
Not a new one though
Mostly, a forgotten one.

भगवान विष्णु Lord Viṣṇu

परमात्मा
Paramātmā refers to
“supersoul — He(r') who is situated in the hearts of all living entities
as a witness and the source of
remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness”.
― from श्रीमद् भगवद्-गीता Śrīmad-Bhagavad-Gītā.

परमात्मा the Paramātmā (Supersoul) feature of भगवान विष्णु Lord Viṣṇu

नारायण Nārāyaṇa, literally “having water as abode”

नारायण Nārāyaṇa is the name of the Supreme God in his infinite all-pervading form. He is the Supreme पुरुष Puruṣa, “spirit” of पुरुष सूक्त Purusha Sūkta (the hymns of the वेदों Vedas). The पुराण Puranas present a seemingly divergent, but accurate description of नारायण Nārāyaṇa (as an Enlightened Supreme Being). The fifth verse of the नारायण सूक्त  Nārāyaṇa Sukta, a hymn in यजुर्वेद Yajurveda, states that नारायण Nārāyaṇa pervades whatever is seen or heard in this universe from inside and outside alike. Another important translation of नारायण Nārāyaṇa is The One who rests on Water. The waters are called नराह् Narāh, [for] the waters are, indeed, produced by नर Nara [the first Being]; as they were his first residence [आयन Āyana], he is called नारायण Nārāyaṇa "The Refuge of Everyone". In Sanskrit, "नराह् Nara" can also refer to all human beings or living entities (जीवाश Jīvāśa). Therefore, another meaning of नारायण Nārāyaṇa is Resting place for all living entities. The close association of नारायण Nārāyaṇa with water explains the frequent depiction of नारायण Nārāyaṇa in Hindu art as standing or sitting on an ocean.

Various scriptures describe the power of the mantra vibrations and their protective potential. गुरुदेव Gurudev, परमहंस विश्वानंद, Paramahansa Wiśwananda, always recommends chanting the 8-syllable mantra ओम नमो नारायणाय O Namo Nārāyaṇaya to connect with the Divine within us. नारायणाय Nārāyaṇa means “the One, who dwells in all beings” or “the One, in whom all beings dwell”. Chanting this mantra reminds us of our eternal relationship with the Divine and strengthens this sacred bond.

In recent सत्संग Satsang, गुरुजी Guruji shared a simple, yet beautiful way, how we can utilise the power of this mantra, in order to infuse our bodies with Divine vibrations and set energetic protection around us at the same time.

ओम नमो नारायणाय
O Namo Nārāyaṇaya

This process is described in greater detail in Chapter 8 of 6 Canto of श्रीमद्भागवतम् Srimad Bhagavatam, at the beginning of the process known as नारायण कवचम Narayana Kavacham (creating a “shield of नारायण Narayana”). In verses 4-6 it is described:

“If some form of fear arrives, one should first wash his hands and legs clean and (…) sit gravely and silently, facing north. When completely purified, one should touch the mantra composed of eight syllables to the eight parts of his body and touch the mantra composed of twelve syllables to his hands. Thus, in the following manner, he should bind himself with नारायणाय the Nārāyaṇa coat of armour. First, while chanting the mantra composed of eight syllables ओम नमो नारायणाय [Oṁ Namo Nārāyaṇa], beginning with the प्रणव praṇava, the syllable ओम oṁ, one should touch his hands to eight parts of his body, starting with the two feet and progressing systematically to the knees, thighs, abdomen, heart, chest, mouth and head. Then one should chant the mantra in reverse, beginning from the last syllable य [ya], while touching the parts of his body in the reverse order.”
